WILD WOMEN OF THE BLUES!
This great event came off without a hitch on Saturday, January 17. It all got started at 9:45PM bringing a much-needed fix for those mid-winter Blues! This year, we held Wild Women of the Blues at the Harmony Bar at 2201 Atwood Avenue in Madison. For everyone who made it to the 2007 event, this was another great celebration of the spirit of the powerful Women who bring you the Blues. Lovers of Wild Women made the scene!
This year two great acts!
Carolynn Black and The Blues didn't hold back on the powerful energy of the Blues Wild Women. Carolynn started her train slow, built up speed and, by the time she rolled through the station, everyone's hats were blown off! Her foot-stompin' blues gave everyone the Wild Woman spirit.
Jamie Brace really rocked the house at the Madison Blues Society 2009 Wild Women event. Backed by the versatile band Hounds Tooth, Jamie's powerful vocals breathed life into blues standards and familiar favorites alike. Thanks, Jamie, for demonstrating what Wild Women are made of!
Carolynn Black is known as a "female singer-songwriter/soul mama known to encourage happiness, dancing, and good vibes through music." Accused of sounding like the freaky-lesbo-love-child of Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin, Carolynn describes herself as a bluesy,country-funkified soul singer. She is all those things, and then some.
Originally from New York, she came to Madison and quickly hooked into the Madison music scene singing with Clyde Stubblefield on Funky Mondays at the King Club and later bringing her energy to the original funk and R&B band Vibe Syndicate. Her versatile style and powerful voice will bring us the spirit of Wild Women of the Blues. As Carolynn Black says "...music is life, so keep on rockin'..."
The dynamic and soulful voice of Jamie Brace debuted in Milwaukee in February 2007 and has become the heart of the high-energy show of soul rockin' Blues of the Hounds Tooth Blues Band. She was voted Best Female Vocalist in the Shepherd Express' Best of 2007 voting. She has also studied voice at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Jamie brings a powerful and passionate voice to Hounds Tooth that can stir the emotions and soothe the soul.
" Hounds Tooth is one of Milwaukee's great up and coming traditional blues bands. With the powerhouse vocals of Jamie Brace they were a welcome addition to our Saturday line-up at the 2008 Waukesha BluesFest".
Here are some highlights of Hounds Tooth's successes:
- WAMI Winner for Best Band Website
- IBC Nominee for Best Self-Produced CD
- Best Blues Band Runner-Up in Shepherd Express Best of 2008
- Selected for participation in the Grafton Blues Challenge
Special thanks goes out to Keith
