Al Dykema, also known as Floyd Cornelius, and principal member of the popular Madison area blues band Floyd and the Void, has died in Pennsylvania from complications of pneumonia. He and the band were well known in the area, and he was instrumental in introducing many local musicians to each other.
His friends are putting on a memorial concert and jam at the Club Tavern, in Middleton, on Sunday, February 14, at 2:00PM. There is no cover but there will be a place to make donations towards a cure for pulmonary fibrosis.
The bands playing are The Void, Tracks Outta Town , and the Mark David Group. The jam to follow will include many area musicians who were friends of Floyd. You can read the story and make a donation at Local Sounds Magazine. Check out the show HERE.
The Madison Blues Society wants to thank our GREAT VOLUNTEERS for all the help they have given us in the past. Without you, we couldn't do what we do! Your tireless help with our events and programs is really appreciated! For those who can keep on going, we have more events lined up that will have lots of fun mixed in to make your contribution work for you as well as for the Blues in Madison.
Thank-you's and surveys that went out to the picnic volunteers have been coming in with good suggestions and comments that really help us plan the next picnic. The feedback we've been getting really helps us do things better each year.
We hope that you were able to make to the Capital Brewery Volunteer Thank-You Party and look forward to working with you again soon!

On Sunday March 14th at 8:00PM, there was a rockin' CELEBRATION at the world-famous Ground Zero Blues Club®. Big Star Media threw a party to celebrate the Blues Music Award nomination from the Blues Foundation. The DVD of the Year nominee was for the film entitled Down To The Crossroads - Volume 1. This film features George Thorogood and the Destroyers with legendary blues man Eddie Shaw.
Down To The Crossroads - Volume 1 is the first of a series hosted by Morgan Freeman, which is filmed at the club. The Destroyers were on hand for the party as we all enjoy music from the Dallas based band Monkie Beat. Monkie Beat is headed up by George's long time guitarist Jim Suhler, and they're famous for their flamethrower-style Texas rockin' blues. Suhler and Monkey Beat were also nominated for a Blues Music Award for Rock Blues Album of the Year, Tijuana Bible.
